System Restore....
OK, I knew that there was this thing called System Restore in Windows XP... however, I've never really needed it.... well, until now ;-) I installed an application developed by a co-worker and it basically destroyed “something” that caused

To all .TEXT users... How to see referrers filtering out search engines.
Using the Statistics | Referrers in .TEXT is pretty good; however, if most of you receive a lot of traffic from search engines, it's hard to see what other community sites are actually linking to you. I've been playing around with an SQL statement that

My name is Cory Smith, I make mistakes and am extremely proud of it!
I have to 100% agree with Erik Porter ... he does make a lot of mistakes :-D OK, seriously, I do agree with him. I would hope that someone reading my blog would be able to see a reflection of the type of person that I am... one that is constantly trying

I'm probably going to make someone mad, but...
... this has got to be one of the dumbest features in VB.NET. It's bit me a few times when I've had to help someone on their machine and I go looking using intellisense for something and it's not there. My brain is telling me that there's something there

CodeSmith - Strongly-typed ArrayList collection for VB.NET
I've completed the conversion for the ArrayList.cst and IList.cst C# source files distributed with CodeSmith to VB.NET (all 2752 lines of it ;-) ). Assuming I don't have any conversion bugs left it in (I've done some testing and it's working great for

Protected Overridable properties in NotInheritable classes in VB.NET
I noticed that Jason posted up some code that we were discussion regarding some weirdness in some code I was converting from C# to VB.NET. For the specifics of the problem, check out his blog. After the fact, Paul Vick confirmed that it was indeed a bug

Adventures in CodeSmith...
I forgot to mention on the list that I'm also working on converting some of the CodeSmith templates for generating strongly-typed ArrayList collections from C# to VB.NET. After some further adventures in the land of FxCop, I noticed that some of the conversion

I've been blog robbed... I feel so violated...
Someone just came to my blog, I'm guessing using Google, to search for how to do something . Posted feedback asking for some assistance and within a 30 minute period posted more feedback saying he figured it out. Even thanked me... However, following

Working on a ton of things...
There's a ton of things going on right now, so everyone please be a little patient on new things coming. Here's a rough list of some of the things that I'm working on: Migrate XboxFriends.com to a dedicated server. Redesign the database for Xbox Friends

XboxFriends.com will be moving to a new web server soon...
Thanks to all of those that have responded. I really appreciate the offers and it looks like XboxFriends.com will have a new home after all. Not ready to say where just yet, but once the move is completed and the new version of Xbox Friends Thing is ready,

VisualFavorites - A teaser screen capture.
The main menu and toolbars aren't completed just yet (more of a placeholder), worked on getting the general layout (which is all resizable) complete. Also got all the folder editing (new, rename, delete) via context menu and now include drag 'n drop folder

New VB.NET sample application coming soon...
I'm now working on a utilitarian type application that will allow you to manage your Internet Explorer favorites in a much better way. Well, at least in a way that I find 'better'. ;-) I've been toying with this idea for a while and now it's begun. Since

Duncan Mackenzie is just being downright cruel...

Hey... you haven't been doing a whole lot of VB.NET stuff lately...
This is a comment I received from someone in passing last week. Looking around, I have to agree with them :-( Not trying to make excuses, but I can say that my spare time lately has been very sparse with several projects. But, now that I've been made

Xbox Friends Thing - Needs a new home...
I need to find a web host provider that would be willing to trade services (and allow for some pretty specialized configuration) for promotional benefits. I think this would be a great opportunity to that provider considering they would be getting exposure
